Childproof Your Home to Ease Your Worry

Childproof Your Home to Ease Your WorryWhat most novel parents find worrisome is making the home safe and secured without compromising your child's play, and potential to learn. At the early ages, a child has an insatiable appetite to explore and may think that everything surrounding him/her is something to discover. For parents not to be at constant watch, they opt to childproof the house as to keep the tots protected and away from harm. Here are some tips to help childproof your home and ensure that the little ones are safe and happy.

  • Keep it locked up. Some household materials are poisonous and dangerous, but your little tot doesn't know this and may mistake it for a toy. Keep all these valuables and dangerous materials away from your child's reach. This is also an effective way to minimize or even eliminate clutter.

  • Childproof latch. Keeping it away from reach of children may not be enough to insure total safety. Sometimes, there is a need to install childproof latches on cabinet doors and drawers especially those that contain poisonous and dangerous objects.

  • Cover outlets. Make sure to place protective covering to outlets that the child can reach. Plug in small plastic outlet plugs to guard children from potential outlet shocks.

  • Crib bar spacing. Make sure all baby gears and things used meet the standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

  • Handy numbers. Secure all emergency numbers next to the phone or somewhere visible and accessible to anyone in case of emergency.

  • Set up baby gates. This is one of the most crucial measures to take especially when your home has staircases. Install baby gates at doorways and at the top and bottom of stairways.

  • Furniture pads. Pad sharp furniture or counter edges with foam tape or corner protectors.

  • Fence the pool. Fencing in the pool or other dangerous areas is one way of keeping the child out of harm’s way. Fence height should be about 4 to 5 feet high. Also consider installing self-latching gates.

  • Install safety locks. Some children might be able to open doors or windows, or even some hardware. It's best to keep those safely locked up.

With these fast and efficient tips, your beautiful home will be child-friendly in no time. You will be able to go through your day without dreading your child's security.
